Mindful Morsels #2 – Birthday Letter

I wrote this poem - my birthday letter to Him. It’s a simple reflection of the various stages of my life where His promises have been proven true and real. I am utterly grateful that I have a faithful God who loves me so.

I woke up on the morning of my birthday recently, enjoying the quietness in the house. I felt the urge to spend time in God’s presence, a call to His fellowship.

And hence, I did. As a result, I wrote this poem – my birthday letter to Him. It’s a simple reflection of the various stages of my life where His promises have been proven true and real. I am utterly grateful that I have a faithful God who loves me so.

To My Father in Heaven,

Today is my birthday
Do You remember me?
The one Your eyes first saw
Before my form even came to be (Ps 139:16a)
The creation You knitted fearfully
With wonder in my mother’s womb (Ps 139:13-14)
Breath of life I took from You
My days ordained as You designed so. (Ps 139:16b)

Today is my birthday
Do You remember me?
You showed me how to love a furry puppy
And laughed as I paddled by the sea
You sat close with me
On the first day of school
Held my hand and said be brave
That I will never ever be left alone. (Deut 31:6)

Today is my birthday
Do You remember me?
The teen who made Your heart ache
Your ways I challenged, just let me be!
Broke Your heart and made You grieve (Eph 4:30)
Yet … You stood by me,
You were ready with arms wide open
When your prodigal ran back to Thee. (Luke 15:20)

Today is my birthday
Do You remember me?
All the coming ins and going outs
Your angels were sure kept busy (Ps 91:11-12)
You lifted my head and I stood sure
You fought my Boardroom battles
And even at the operating table
I feared none for You guided my doctors (Isaiah 41:10)

Today is my birthday
Do You remember me?
You healed my heart and embraced me close (Ps 147:3)
When some things were just not meant to be
You dried my tears and still my fears (Ps 46:10)
When lonely days and nights assailed
The times when all I held as dear
Seem far and cold, silent and frail.

And as I stand on my birthday
To pause and reflect my past
Each day a clear testimony
Of Your steadfast faithfulness (Deut 7:9)
Nary a time You failed me
Your Word my daily bread (Matt 6:11)
A lamp alive that guides my feet
And lights my path to tread (Ps 119:105)

Oh… my Alpha and Omega
Surely my beginning and my end (Rev 22:13)
Your Son, my Savior and Redeemer
You are my Abba – the Great I AM. (Gal 4:6; Exodus 3:14)
Creator of the universe
The One who has no peer
And on His throne, He reigns supreme (Ps 47:8)
And wipes away all tears (Rev 21:4)

Today is my birthday
Lord, You remember me
The apple of Your eye, Your child (Ps 17:8)
By grace, restored and free
I can never fully fathom
All that You have done for me
My life abundant, I shall lack none (John 10:10; Ps 23:1)
For I have You who love me.

Thank you with all my heart,
Your Child.
