Growing Spiritually – Life Track 2018

Knowledge on its own is powerless, the truth is not meant to be stored in our memories or mind. God says to be not only hearers, but doers of the Word, so the truth and principles in the Bible are meant for us to apply, to live out in our daily walk.
Discipleship is a lifelong learning process. It is never a curriculum or just a syllabus like in an academic program. If we are honest, many Christians find it a chore to attend discipleship programs.

Some of us who may have attended before, may think we’ve already learnt the necessary after one or two.

But I would like to exhort you with this saying – a Christian who knows the truth and apply it will lead a victorious life, Christians who do not know the truth and apply it will be a defeated Christian.

Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.”

Learning to live by God’s word is a life-long process, where we need to be constantly reminded, inspired, assured and encouraged by the truth. It is the key to helping us overcome challenges that inevitably come in life, and to find the answers we are in search of. God did not make it elusive and hard to find, but the reality is, we still need to seek it out.

A 45-minute sermon during weekly Sunday services alone will not be sufficient, though it may inspire us. To truly mature and grow, it takes more to build those healthy spiritual muscles.

Knowledge on its own is powerless, the truth is not meant to be stored in our memories or mind. God says to be not only hearers, but doers of the Word, so the truth and principles in the Bible are meant for us to apply, to live out in our daily walk.

Understanding how to apply God’s word is crucial in both good and bad days. As we know, life can really be full on, what with health issues, family crisis, problems with decisions and direction of life, just to name a few. It can be very stressful, and sometimes we don’t seem to know where we can find strength to face it all.

Many of us need that breakthrough and empowerment, to become overcomers as God has called us to be. We may think of rescuing those who are lost, or reaching those in darkness, and rightly so, but the reality is there are many Christians who are equally lost because we do not know how to draw from God’s word in our everyday, to develop the biblical “tools” that will help us mature in our faith.

That’s the heart behind why we’re starting something called Life Track – a discipleship program that will run two Sundays a month from April till October 2018.

Through 13 one-off courses, we cover topics such as anger and forgiveness, how to have good emotional health, dealing with failure, the nature of servanthood and authority, spiritual gifts and big questions such as what God’s will in our lives is and why suffering exists.

Our church’s theme for this year is ‘Audacious Faith, Authentic Love’, and the truth is, it is not an attitude and belief that comes from just willing it. The more we are reminded, inspired, assured and encouraged by the truth of the Bible, the closer we get. So let’s grow stronger in our faith together.
