Day 17 Movement Control Order – “Strategic Psalm 91 Watch”
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Let us meditate on each of these words.
1) “GIVE”
How do you feel when you ask people to give you something? It can be a humbling experience- isn’t it; because it may sound like you cannot afford it or that you are in lack or even having to depend on others.
However, when this is expressed to the Lord, it indicates your reliance and dependence on Him.
When we pray ‘give” we are acknowledging God’s help, we are putting our trust in Him to supply our needs. We DO AWAY with our self sufficient attitudes which may be prevalent especially when we are taught to help ourselves!
James 4:2 – “You desire but do not have so you kill, you covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you not ask God.”
GOD WANTS US TO LOOK TO HIM IN ALL THINGS:
When we don’t know what to do, He is our source of wisdom. When we feel like everything is caving in on us, He is our source of encouragement.
When things look hopeless, He is our source of hope.
2) “US”
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO REMEMBER THAT THIS IS NOT A SELFISH PRAYER. JESUS DID NOT COMMAND US TO PRAY “GIVE ME THIS DAY” It is “US”
Jesus is reminding us that our prayer is not about giving ME this and giving ME that but remembering the needs of others – those who are in need of God’s provision; healing and divine intervention.
The Christian prayer does not start and end with ourselves. It is a prayer that encompasses others – “Give US our daily bread.”
3) “THIS DAY”
It reminds us that our Christian walk is a daily walk – a daily renewal of his strength.
We do not live in the past nor for the future yet. We live in the present. When we live in the past, we may be thinking, “If only I had done this or that” and it can bring us sadness.
Similarly, when we live – thinking too much of the future – we live in worry – particularly at such a time like this. What is going to happened tomorrow?
Jesus taught us to live in the PRESENT in MATTHEW 6:31-34:SO DO NOT WORRY, SAYING, ‘WHAT SHALL WE EAT?’ OR ‘WHAT SHALL WE DRINK?’ OR ‘WHAT SHALL WE WEAR?’ FOR THE PAGANS RUN AFTER ALL THESE THINGS, AND YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER KNOWS THAT YOU NEED THEM. 33 BUT SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AS WELL. THEREFORE DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, FOR TOMORROW WILL WORRY ABOUT ITSELF. EACH DAY HAS ENOUGH TROUBLE OF ITS OWN.
“Worry is an attempt to control the uncontrollable.”
“Give us THIS DAY our daily bread.”
4) “DAILY BREAD.”
We have 3 basic needs that we need God to provide – some indirectly and some directly.
Physical Needs – Shelter, food and clothing.
Emotional Needs – Our peace; our hope, our joy – these are blessings from God!
Spiritual Needs – Salvation; Eternal Life; Abiding presence of the Holy Spirit.
So – do you think that we can live without His Provision? Maybe to a certain extend but we will never be complete.
When we are free and living in the City, with a career or a business – we tend to think we work for it and therefore we can provide for ourselves. However, when you are found in the WILDERNESS – when most things come caving in – you will then truly discover – God will be your Provider!
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
