Day 65 Movement Control Order – “Strategic Psalm 91 Watch”
‘Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.’
Luke 18:1
In the Christian life there is NO WAY we can grow if we ignore or hold back on the practice of prayer. No spiritual activity can replace this vital spiritual discipline.
Over the years I have heard these responses when people are being asked about their prayer life. Some have said that their prayer life consists of repeating a sequence of words which they have memorized and which they use at the beginning and end of the day. Others have confessed that they pray only when they need something. Still others have said that they pray simply when they feel like it.
How sad that one of the most important aspects of the Christian life is left to the vagary of feeling. Many have lost the vitality of Christian living and unknowingly have taken themselves off the lifeline itself.
The Authorized Version of the Bible translates part of today’s text in this way: ‘Men ought always to pray, and not to faint …’ Jesus was teaching, of course, that we ought to be committed to prayer, but it is also true that when we fail to pray, then faintheartedness soon follows.
We either pray or become a prey to spiritual weakness. (Selwyn Hughes) Prayer is NOT difficult if you just come to God with your heart. Talk to him like a friend and then slowly learn to listen to His small, still voice and you will find that prayer is actually a relationship!
