Senior Pastor’s Devotional
Day 63 Movement Control Order – “Strategic Psalm 91 Watch”
“Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly.”
James 5:17.
Elijah was a great prophet of God, but it is so assuring to read this statement, “Elijah was a man just like us.” He sat under a tree, complained to God and expressed his unbelief – just as we have often done.
What does it mean that ‘he prayed earnestly’? It simply means that he prayed hard and not giving up. There was once when rain was very much needed in a parched land. 1 Kings 18:42 tell us that “Elijah…bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees, shutting out all sights and sounds. Nothing…absolutely nothing happened and there was no sight in store of any thing concerning God giving His answer as yet. The bible tell us that he continued to pray and kept on asking the servant to go out and look for the sign of any rain cloud….not one time or twice but seven times. It was at the seventh time did the servant saw the sign of a small rain cloud in formation.
This is a testimony of faith and sight – faith cutting itself off from everything except God, and with sight that keep looking even though seeing nothing as yet. Yes, inspite of utterly hopeless reports received from sight, this is a testimony of faith that continues praying.
Our heavenly Father lives, and even the delays of answers to our prayers are part of His goodness.
May God help us with such persistency.
