Journeying With God | God Is Enough pt 2

by Pastor Shirley Liang

In the previous video – I talked about it is when we want everything else, PLUS God, that God seems insufficient for us. I also explained that God is enough because of His infinitude – boundless and limitless.

The enemy likes to deceive us to believe that we cannot be happy unless we have this, or unless we become like this or unless we have achieved this or that. Today, I want to tell you that God is enough because He is good. And He is not just good but He is infinitely good and perfectly good.

If we have tasted the goodness of God especially in our hardship, then we will be able to attest that God truly is enough. When seemingly things are taken away from us – and we experience how God is able to fill that void, we will understand that God is enough. When we understand that God’s goodness is not necessarily to make us happy or feel good about ourselves but for the greater good, perhaps for us to be more like Christ, and to accomplish God’s divine purposes so that He and He alone is glorified – then we truly know God is indeed good and enough. If ever we get anything from God, it is not because we deserve it or we are good enough. It is solely because He is good. Just a word of caution for you and for me, beware of filling our lives with everything else and having little room for God. Christ should be our pursuit. In Colossians 3:4, Paul says Christ is our life.

Psalms 34:8 David said, “Taste and see that the Lord is God; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” This was not inspired when things were well with David. In fact, he was fleeing from Saul. He had to pretend that he was mad. David tasted the Lord’s goodness and in the midst of danger he was able to encourage others that the Lord is good – and to trust that God is able, that God is enough!

I quote Joni Erickson, “God sometimes allows what He hates to accomplish what He loves.” I also quote Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” The Cross looked gruesome and bad, as if God has lost power, lost control, but by His sovereign will, through it God accomplished the ultimate good. He knows it all along. Likewise, God knows what is the ultimate good for you and for me.

He Is My Everything

He is my everything, He is my all

He is my everything both great and small

He gave His life for me, made everything new

He is my everything, now how about you?

Like honey in the rock, sweet honey in the rock

For He tastes like honey in the rock

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good

For He tastes like honey in the rock
