Session : Unity In One Another

The second category of the ‘one another’ commands and instructions found in the New Testament is UNITY. Some of the Scripture verses:

  1. Living in Harmony with One Another – Romans 15:5,7

PAUL encouraged the believers in Rome to follow the example of Christ to live in harmony and accepting one another that God may be glorified.

  1. Forgiveness is mandatory for Unity – Ephesians 4:32

The Ephesian Christians were to put away bitterness and offences as they live their new life in Christ. Unity requires kindness, tender-compassion, and forgiveness.

The story is taken from Acts 18 and 1 Corinthians 1-3: UNITY that existed between Aquilla, Priscilla, Apollos and Paul.

How Does This Story Enlighten You About UNITY?

A few of the qualities that underscore unity are:

  1. HUMBLENESS & RESPECT found in Aquila and Priscilla

Aquilla did not feel uncomfortable by Priscilla’s more prominence. He was humbled to know that sometimes his wife could be better than him in certain aspects. And Priscilla did not overpower her husband. She respected and submitted to him as head of the family. We learn from Priscilla and Aquilla that HUMILITY, SUBMISSION and RESPECT accentuate UNITY.

  1. AUTHENTICITY found in Paul and Apollos

Both Paul and Apollos knew who they were in Christ, their identity, their roles, and their giftedness. They did not succumb to unhealthy competition but instead celebrated and complemented one another. We learn from Paul and Apollos that being AUTHENTIC, CONFIDENT in CHRIST, RECOGNIZING others’ GIFTINGS spur UNITY.

  1. SACRIFICE

Romans 16:4 tells us that Aquilla and Priscilla risked their lives for Paul. The couple shows us that sometimes UNITY entails SACRIFICE.

“UNITY in One Another” must be anchored in Christ and have the common goal that he be glorified.

Ephesians 4:3-6
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
