MCO Miracles

Movement Control Order, 18 March 2020.  No more school, but online classes from now on?

“Ms Mary, no Wifi, no data, no line, no phone ….” All kinds of reasons – valid reasons, but education must go on. Time to put on my creativity helmet.

Additionally, parents lost their jobs, no income, food running out, rental and utilities must be paid … I called house owners for compassionate discounts and sent SOS to NGOs for food supplies. “Watch out! Roadblocks ahead!” No matter what the consequences, I must get the food for my children and their families. O Lord, what is happening?

But God is good – Psalm 121. The daily afternoon fast and pray with church was very comforting and assuring. I found strength amidst confusion. Keeping in touch with my parents was very important to ensure their safety and welfare. Also, knowing that my students are not lacking in their education. I was amazed at how they still managed to do their work on their own and handed in assignments given just through WhatsApp and short video call time.

On May 22 at 11.30pm, as I was getting ready to sleep, one of my students suddenly messaged me. “Ms Mary, I want to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour”. I sent him words for the sinner’s prayer and we prayed over the phone. He whispered very softly so as not to wake those who were nearby. Till today, we continued to pray against persecution and to trust that the Lord will save his family too. I am so overjoyed that my tears kept rolling down because it happened so suddenly and it is the work of the Holy Spirit.

The next day,  I called the school premises’ owner. Before I could make the request, she offered a discount off the rental. God is so good! My children are not lacking in food supplies and are healthy. Some of my youth who were forced to stop schooling to find work, are able to continue schooling as God sent good Samaritans to sponsor them.

Today as we open school again, even though not all have returned, our students are so happy to meet their teachers and friends. We prayed and thanked God for His protection. I have witnessed miracles after miracles. What a joy it is to serve the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4:2 – O Lord, help me to remain faithful.

Amen.
